Sembra probabile che la Cina abbia sperimentato un sistema “cinetico” per la distruzione di satelliti in orbita, il bersaglio del test sembra essere stato un satellite meteo cinese, questo è quello che si dice su seesat:
I've been hearing murmurings around the community here in Washington that there may have been an extremely energetic event (satellite break-up?) in the last week or so in the LEO altitude range (700-1000 KM). "An enormous amount of debris" in the range of 1000 pieces may have been created.
Has anyone seen anything abnormal of late? I haven’t, nor have I heard anything.

I can't see any new debris in that range, but the DMSP F17 rocket continues to show new pieces, but still around 100 only. Break-up Nov. 4 : http://www.satobs.org/seesat/Nov-2006/0144.html
Aviation Week is reporting that the Chinese conducted an anti-sat test on Feng Yun 1C on Jan 11.
