> Orbit Recycling is changing this. Space debris is transported from the orbit to the Moon and there recycled. E.g. Ariane 5 upper stages are located mainly in GTO & just a small delta-v (1,6km/s) is left to reach the Moon. Since the debris is picked up in orbit, small propulsion units are sufficient for the remaining transport to the moon, which are to launch cost-effectively with European Vega rockets. More than 150 tons of aluminum can be regained from Ariane 5 upper stages alone. Large parts of lunar shelter (for human or robotic missions) can be built with it, e.g. walls, power lines or heat storage systems.

> After drawing new conclusions based on the data, we made two immediate changes while continuing to find a longer-term solution. First, in agreement with NASA, we paused trunk payload disposal during return operations; an empty trunk has a higher probability of fully burning up during reentry than one with payloads. Next, SpaceX implemented material changes to certain components of Dragon’s trunk to further improve the probability of it burning up during reentry.
>
> Simultaneously, SpaceX engineering teams explored a wide variety of solutions to fully eliminate the risk of trunk debris landing on populated areas without increasing risk to Dragon crew or the public. Some of the options studied included a complete trunk redesign; a dedicated propulsion and guidance system to allow the trunk to deorbit itself; jettisoning the trunk at different times in the deorbit burn; and more.
>
> After careful review and consideration of all potential solutions – coupled with the new knowledge about the standard industry models and that Dragon trunks do not fully burn-up during reentry – SpaceX teams concluded the most effective path forward is to return to West Coast recovery operations.

> “Composite images from Slingshot’s LEO-focused Horus optical fences show a series of bright, unexpected objects moving along the same orbital path as the rocket body and the G60 satellites it deployed,” Slingshot Aerospace noted in a statement. The event has more than 50 pieces of debris that now pose a risk to LEO constellations below 800 km altitude, according to the firm. […]

> U.S. Space Forces – Space (S4S) tracking confirmed the breakup of the Long March 6A rocket stage. “The breakup likely occurred Aug. 7, at 1548 UTC. The tracked pieces are being incorporated into routine conjunction assessment to support spaceflight safety. There are currently no threats to human spaceflight. Analysis is ongoing,” the statement read.

Secondo [Jonathan McDowell](https://bsky.app/profile/planet4589.bsky.social/post/3l6w2qlxebf2e):

> Intelsat’s IS-33e communications satellite has undergone a breakup event in geostationary orbit, with US Space Force reporting **20 tracked (but not yet cataloged) debris objects**. The satellite was launched on 2016 Aug 24 and is over the Indian Ocean at 60.1E; breakup was 0430 UTC Oct 19.

> “The failure review board concluded that the anomaly was either caused by a harness flaw in conjunction with an electrostatic discharge event related to solar weather activity, or the impact of a micrometeoroid,” Intelsat said in a discussion document released Tuesday in conjunction with the company’s second quarter financial numbers.
