Dopo la conclusione del volo STS-125 a fine Maggio, la navetta Atlantis si renderà disponibile per la successiva missione ad essa assegnata in calendario.
Si tratterà della STS-129 Atlantis, attualmente prevista NET 12 Novembre.
Sarà una missione logistica , designata ISS-ULF3 che porterà sulla stazione gli Express Logistic Carriers (ELC)1 e 2, oltre alle apparecchiature MISSE 7A e 7B, e SASA.
Durante la missione verranno effettuate tre EVA.
Sono già in fase operativa di preparazione alcuni segmenti degli SRB al KSC, mentre è in fase avanzata di costruzione al MAF di New Orleans l’ET-133 che verrà utilizzato per il volo.
La costruzione è in anticipo sulla scaletta programmata, per cui non ci saranno problemi da questo punto di vista.
Per quanto riguarda l’Atlantis, essa dopo la conclusione della missione STS-125 di manutenzione allo Hubble Space Telescope, verrà sottoposta alla manutenzione ordinaria post-volo e ad alcune modifiche decise recentemente, tra cui probabilmente nuove valvole FCV ridisegnate e costruite con materiali più resistenti.
Si tratterà anche di riconfigurare la navetta per le missioni alla ISS, reinstallando l’ ODS (Orbiter Docking System).
Ormai è diventata un’abitudine disegnare Marte sui vari Pach però, pur se il programma Costellation è ormai partito, mi sembra alquanto prematuro disegnarlo in ogni dove.
Aspettiamo almeno di ritornare prima sulla Luna e poi potremmo guardare oltre!

Atlantis sarà equipaggiato con ET133, OMS sinistro Pod 04, OMS destro Pod 01, RSRM (Reusable Solid Rocket Motor) set 108, SSME 2048, 2044, e 2058.
I motori 2048 e 2058 hanno volato l’ultima volta con Discovery durante STS-119, mentre il 2044 ha volato durante STS-125 in Maggio.

Nello Space Station Processing Facility, al KSC, i tecnici hanno revisionato i giroscopi, di ricambio, che verranno posizionati in EXPRESS Logistics Carrier e portati sulla ISS con questa missione.
L’ ET-133 è stato imbarcaton a Michoud il 29 Luglio, è in arrivo alo KSC nelle prossime ore.

Continua la preparazione del payload di questa missione. Nello Space Station Processing Facility i tecnici hanno preparato un giroscopio e un latching end effector di riserva per il braccio robotico della ISS (SSRMS) per l’installazione su un EXPRESS Logistics Carrier.
