The new Weather Replay app from C3S and ECMWF can reproduce the weather conditions of any historical point back to 1940. The simulations are available in seconds thanks to the ERA5 reanalysis, a cloud-ready ARCO archive system, and the powerful architecture of the ECMWF Data Stores. What we are seeing is actually produced with roughly the same tools used for the ECMWF weather forecast.
The data can be explored freely by playing around and selecting a date in the top left calendar, and a location with geolocation or manually by clicking the map or using the search box, and also via a selection of significant weather events like storms, heatwaves, and flooding.
