My good friend and crew mate, TK Mattingly has died so this is a very sad day. I first worked with TK when I was backup LMP on Apollo 13 and he was prime CMP. He was bumped off of flying on Apollo 13 because I exposed him to the measles. After the accident, on the way to the moon , TK played a vital role in the recovery of the crew. His work on safing the CSM and then the power up before reentry was flawless.
Then on Apollo 16, his skill on handling an emergency one hour before we were to land gave John and me the opportunity to walk on the moon.
TK was one of the hardest working Astronauts that I had the privilege to know and work with.
He went on to fly two Space Shuttle missions and then a very successful Naval career.
TK , I’ll miss you
Dotty and I extend our love and prayers to all the family.
Charlie
